Thank you for your interest in sponsoring a student in the Ilula schools
in Tanzania. Primary, Secondary and High school students are
involved in the program after being qualified by the coordinators and
officers of IOP-TZ Committee. The local ward leaders are also involved
in this process. All committee members and coordinators are working
as volunteers. The school fees include tuition, uniforms, books,
supplies, examination fees and $10 per student administration fees
for TZ committee and $5 per student administration fees for USA
committee (postage, newsletter, etc).
School fees are:
Primary Student: $100/year Standard 1-7 (U.S.A. grades 1-7)
Secondary Student: $225/year Form 1-4 (U.S.A. grades 8-11)
High School: $275/year Form 5-6 (Grades 12-13
Ilula Schools:
There are about 7200 children in the Primary schools and 1100 in secondary
schools. Because the buildings will not hold all of the children at once,
half attend school in the morning and the others go to school in the afternoon
Their other responsibilities might include caring for a sick family member,
watching younger siblings, working in the 'shamba' or garden to provide
food or doing community service. At school there are a few desks and benches and a dirt or concrete floor to sit on. Writing might be done on a slate. Much of the material presented is learned by listening, since paper and school materials are scarce.
The children are enthusiastic about learning and want to be in school. By
sponsoring a child in Ilula, you have an active part in providing an education
for some of the poorest children in the world. This will give them hope for

After you become a sponsor and become acquainted with your student, we
hope that you will consider providing more than one year of schooling
for them. Some sponsors provide the cost of the rest of their school years
and some only sponsor a child for one year. Sometimes one or more
individuals or a group will sponsor a student. Please know that whatever
decision you make, we are happy that you have considered to give to the
children of Ilula so they will become encouraged and hopeful for the future.
