This document
will describe how to setup Windows95/Windows98 for connection to the Internet
via RTC Communications. These instructions are the manual way to do
it. If you are looking for the Internet Connection Wizard instructions
that we give to new customers, they are available from our On-Line
Application and Setup Instructions page.
The pertinent settings for ensuring your connection is
setup right are as follows:
Control Panel and Network
-
Double-click 'My Computer' and then 'Control Panel'
and then 'Network'.
-
You should see (at least) Dialup Adapter and TCP/IP
under installed network components. If you don't see them, you will
need to add:
-
Under Adapters:
-
Microsoft ..............Dialup Adapter
-
Under Protocols:
-
Microsoft ..............TCP/IP
-
Double-click on TCP/IP. This will show you the properties
of the TCP/IP stack. Each tab is labeled below with the setting needed.
NOTE: RTC Communications has chosen to use Dial-Up Networking
to establish the tcpip and dialup settings. For this reason, the networking
components in Control Panel, Network should all contain null settings.

-

the Dial-Up Networking can be configured. Open 'My Computer' and then "Dial-Up
Networking'. You should see an icon labled rtccom.net. Right click
on it with the right mouse button and choose Properties from the
pop-up menu.
-
Choose Server Types.
-
There should only be two checks on this window. Enable
software compression and TCP/IP. Uncheck everything else.
-
Click the TCP/IP Settings button.
-
The first option with a dot next to it should be 'Server
assigned IP address'
-
Server assigned name server addresses should NOT be checked
with a dot
-
Specify name server address should be checked with dot.
-
The Primary DNS is 206.160.240.34
-
There is no secondary. Leave it blank.
-

This should be everything needed to get you connected to
